In 1993, my parents and I visited my brother and his girlfriend in Bologna,
Italy. Like many Northern Italian towns, Bologna has a medieval old town
area surrounded by sprawling suburbs.
Bologna is known for its food...for instance, here's a shot of my father,
John, with some large rounds of cheese.
Italy is quite a small country, and transportation is good, so it is
surprising that there is a difference in food preparation from one city
to the next...but there is.
The food in Bologna is very good, and it tends to be very, very fattening.
Here's my mother, Mary, doing a number on two chocolate/cheese/custard
concoctions simultaneously. This stuff, based on mascarpone cheese and chocolate,
is just awesome.
